About
#522 J’Archive is an installation with 19+1 paintings, ratchet straps and wood support. The title is French for I Archive. The painting on the wall is #383 Alter Ego, and the 19 works beneath are curated by me and presented in a folder. When the installation is exhibited it represents a hidden exhibition within the exhibition.
As an artist, you must reconcile with producing art mainly for the archive. All exhibitions end, and even if your works are sold, they usually end up in public or private collections—other archives than yours. I see the works in an archive as dormant, like plants and animals in nature, waiting for their next moment in the sun. An archive is not only a memory. It is also potential. I view working with art as a labour of hope.
